About Murchison Falls National Park
Murchison Falls is where the entire Victoria Nile — a river carrying the outflow of Lake Victoria — is squeezed through a gap in the rock barely 7 metres wide before dropping 43 metres into the gorge below. It's the most powerful waterfall on Earth by force of water per metre of width, and it sits inside Uganda's largest national park, with giraffe, elephant, buffalo and lion spread across the savannah on both banks.
The Nile safari boat runs from Paraa up to the base of the falls — hippos, Nile crocodiles the length of a small car, elephant and buffalo coming down to drink, and the falls themselves growing louder for the last half hour before you arrive.
Game drives on the northern bank cover the delta and Buligi circuit, prime ground for lion and the park's substantial giraffe population; a hike to the top of the falls delivers the view down into the gorge that the boat only sees from below.
