Travel Information

Flying a small aircraft is a little different from an airliner. Here is what to know before you travel.

Where We Fly

Available scheduled flights from Entebbe every morning. Exact times are confirmed with your booking.

  • Kisoro — Mgahinga, southern Bwindi
  • Kihihi — Bwindi, Buhoma & Ruhija
  • Kasese / Mweya — Queen Elizabeth, Rwenzori
  • Mbarara — Lake Mburo, Ankole

Search and book a scheduled flight, or ask about a private charter for dates or airstrips outside this list.

Check-In Times

  • Entebbe International: check in at the domestic terminal 45 minutes before departure.
  • Park and regional airstrips: be at the strip 20–30 minutes before departure; your lodge or guide will advise.
  • Bring photo identification for every passenger (see ID & visa).
  • Flights are often ready to leave early if all passengers are present — don't be late.

Baggage Allowance

The Grand Caravan is a light aircraft with limited hold space, and every kilo is weighed for balance.

  • Guideline allowance: 15 kg checked plus 5 kg cabin, per passenger.
  • Soft bags only — holdalls and duffels. Hard suitcases and framed packs often will not fit the hold and may be refused.
  • Excess or awkward items (tripods, golf bags, film kit) must be declared when booking so we can plan the load.
  • On a full flight the allowance may be reduced; we will tell you in advance.

The exact allowance for your flight is confirmed at booking.

Children & Infant Travel

  • Infants under 2 may travel on an adult's lap where permitted, or in their own seat.
  • Every passenger, including children, occupies a seat with a seatbelt for take-off and landing and counts toward the weight limit.
  • Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking has a minimum age of 15 — check with your operator before booking a family fly-in.
  • Tell us the ages and approximate weights of children when booking so the load is planned correctly.

Passenger Assistance

Tell us in advance if a passenger needs help boarding, has reduced mobility, or is travelling with a medical device or an assistance animal. The Caravan boards by a short airstair, and space is tight, so we will discuss what is possible and arrange help at Entebbe. Wheelchairs travel as checked items subject to size.

Medical Travel Requirements

  • Passengers who are unwell, recently had surgery, are heavily pregnant, or use oxygen should get their doctor's clearance to fly and let us know before travel.
  • Small unpressurised aircraft cruise at modest altitude, but conditions differ from an airliner — discuss any concern with us.
  • For patient transfers and evacuations, see Medical evacuation.

Dangerous & Prohibited Goods

Dangerous goods are restricted by regulation. The following must not be carried without prior declaration and approval:

  • Fuels, gas cylinders, aerosols beyond personal-care quantities, camping stoves with residue
  • Lithium batteries above the permitted size, spare batteries loose in the hold, power banks in checked bags
  • Firearms and ammunition (permit and prior arrangement required)
  • Corrosives, oxidisers, flammable liquids and solids, infectious substances

If you are unsure whether an item is allowed, ask before you travel. Undeclared dangerous goods will be removed and may delay the flight.

Identification & Visa Requirements

  • Domestic flights: carry a government photo ID (passport, national ID or driving licence) for every passenger.
  • International visitors: most nationalities need a Uganda visa or the East Africa Tourist Visa, arranged online before arrival. Carry your passport on domestic flights too.
  • Regional charters: passports, visas and any permits for the destination country are the passenger's responsibility; our team can advise.

Changes, Cancellations & Refunds

  • Changes are made through our office — reply to your booking email or contact us with your reference.
  • Charter cancellation terms depend on notice and any costs already committed (positioning, airfield fees); they are set out in your quote.
  • Refunds for services not provided are made to the original payment method.
  • Full terms are on the Terms & policies page.

Weather Disruptions

Safety comes before schedule. Flights may be delayed, re-routed or moved to another time of day for low cloud, storms, poor visibility or a wet strip — this is common in the wet seasons and in the high south-west. If a flight cannot operate safely we will re-book you at the earliest workable time or refund the affected sector. Build a little buffer into tight itineraries, especially around gorilla permits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring a hard suitcase?
Usually not — the hold takes soft bags. Repack into a duffel before you travel, or tell us in advance and we will see what is possible.
How many passengers fit?
Up to eight, fewer if there is significant cargo or medical equipment on board.
Is there a toilet on board?
No. Flights are short — under two hours — but use the facilities before boarding.
Can I choose my seat?
Seating is assigned by the crew for weight and balance. Every seat has a window.
What if my flight is delayed by weather and I miss a permit?
We do everything we can to get you there, including an earlier or alternative routing. We can't control the weather or the permit rules, so leave a buffer day where you can.
Do you fly at night?
Most park and regional strips are daylight-only. Entebbe operates at night for medevac and special missions.
