About Entebbe
Entebbe sits on a Lake Victoria peninsula, greener and quieter than Kampala, 40 km away. Most travellers pass through on their way somewhere else; it's worth treating as a first or last stop in its own right, especially with an early departure or a late arrival to fill.
Entebbe Botanical Gardens, laid out in 1898, run right down to the lakeshore and are genuinely good birding on their own, alongside black-and-white colobus in the older trees. The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (the old zoo, now a conservation and rescue centre) is a useful stop for species you may not see on safari.
The lakeside itself — beaches, boat trips, fresh tilapia at a lakeside restaurant — makes for an easy, unhurried day, and it's a five-minute transfer back to the airport when it's time to fly.
