About Jinja & the source of the Nile

Jinja marks the point where the Victoria Nile leaves Lake Victoria and begins its run to the Mediterranean — a fact that made it a fixture of Victorian exploration and, today, the base for East Africa's biggest concentration of white-water rafting, kayaking and bungee operators, all built around the same stretch of river.

Grade 5 rapids sit within a short drive of town, run by several long-established rafting operators with full safety kit and a calmer, scenic option for anyone who'd rather watch the river than fight it.

Beyond the adrenaline sports, a quiet sunset cruise on the source itself, or a visit to the Nile Discovery Centre, covers the history side without needing a wetsuit.
