About Karamoja & Moroto
Karamoja is Uganda's remote north-east — dry, mountainous, and home to the Karamojong, semi-nomadic cattle-keeping communities whose way of life has changed less than almost anywhere else in the country. Mount Moroto and Mount Kadam rise straight off the plain, and the region shares Kidepo's rugged, wide-open character without the fixed safari infrastructure.
Visits here are led by local guides and, where relevant, community liaison — homestead (manyatta) visits, cattle-camp culture and craft markets, done respectfully and typically arranged in advance rather than dropped into.
The landscape itself, rock outcrops and escarpments above dry acacia plains, rewards those making the trip regardless of the cultural programme, and it pairs naturally with Kidepo Valley on a longer northern-Uganda route.
